Johan Fornäs is Professor at the Department of Culture and Society (Tema Q) at Campus Norrköping of Linköping University, where he also directs the Advanced Cultural Studies Institute of Sweden (ACSIS). His background is in musicology and media and communication studies, and he has done extensive research on popular music, youth culture and media culture. He has also published widely, including Cultural Theory and Late Modernity (Sage 1995), Youth Culture in Late Modernity (Sage 1995), In Garageland: Rock, Youth and Modernity (Routledge 1995), Digital Borderlands: Cultural Studies of Identity and Interactivity on the Internet (Peter Lang 2002), Moderna människor. Folkhemmet och jazzen (Norstedts 2004) and a series of anthologies from research projects on youth and media culture, including four volumes from the collective ethnographic Passages project on media consumption.
