NEW TECHNOLOGY AND HUMANISM MEETS IN CONFERENCE

Digital visualisation and measuring technologies are part of everyday life of information technology. How are we able to utilize these technologies in humanistic research and in the preservation of European cultural heritage?

Answer to this question is searched for in the 3 D BRIDGE – Transferring of Cultural Heritage with New Technology –conference, in which five European cultural heritage target areas introduced. In this event technology and humanistic science meets each other.

The conference is organised by 3D-Bridge –project. The project is coordinated by University of Jyväskylä. The basis of the project is to study European cultural heritage and to adapt the results among other things to building preservation. The project aims to develop new technological tools for the visualization of cultural heritage. By applying new technologies, European cultural heritage will be translated into the language of the future societies and media literate generations.

The programme of the conference consists of two theme days. On the first day the conference concentrates on the basis of 3D-visualisation from the point of view of archeology, art history, building preservation, culture environment education and cultural tourism. On the first day the five different project’s target areas are reviewed: Filippo Juvarra’s palace and garden plan (Italy 1705), Villa architecture at Castelporziono, Trinitatis Church in Liepaja, Latvia, the inside of Valamo Monastery and the Seminaarinmäki Campus in Jyväskylä. The aim of the second day is to concentrate on the different technologies used in studying these target areas and to discuss about the questions which have risen from the application of these technologies. The speakers of the conference are 3D Bridge –project’s specialists, who work all around the Europe: in universities, research institutes, polytechnics, foundations and companies.

The language of the conference is English. Welcome!

This project has received financial support from European Commission’s culture 2000 –programme. I addition the project is supported financially by Regional Council of Central Finland, Regional Council of North-Savo and Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia.
