Visualisation of Filippo Juvarra's Palace and Garden Plan

Prior experience in presenting Filippo Juvarra's architectural designs and sketches as 3D-models has proved that the nature of Juvarra's multiperspective design practice and dynamic spatial thought can be illustrated and determined by means of 3D-technology. In the 3D-Bridge project, the subject is the palace and garden plan created by architect Filippo Juvarra (1678-1736). From the viewpoint of European architecture, this plan is of most important. The winner of the Consorso Clementino competition arranged by the Academy of Rome in 1705, it displaced the central perspective of the Renaissance. Juvarra's plan and his design practice have served as an ideal for students of architecture for several centuries. The principal targets of the 3D-Bridge project are 1) to make Juvarra's palace and garden plan spatial by means of a 3D-model and also by comparing it with the visualisation of the wooden scale model of Juvarra's Palace of Rivoli; 2) to critically examine the multiperspective design practice in a visual form by means of VRE and 3) to present the findings of the research to general public via a website, among other means.

Activities

The visualisation of Juvarra's space conception will be carried out as follows:

  1. Gathering of original material: high resolution scans of architectural drawings; architectural model documentation; traveling to Torino/Vincennes, Madrid (September 05 – January 06)
  2. 3D-modelling and animation of the 1705 palace project by Juvarra, 3D-modelling of the Rivoli Model, visualisation of scientific results (September 05 – August 06)
  3. Putting the models online; link to the Lineamenta database (April 06 – August 06)
